Nollywood enters 2021 with a bang
The Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood ended the 2000’s decade with a bang, entering the new year with several blockbuster movies currently showing in the cinemas and making waves, as well as breaking records. Nollywood movies have improved from say, bar standards to casino.netbet.ng standards, and that is a huge leap for the industry. Let us look at some of the top movies that ended 2020.

1) Omo Ghetto (The Saga): Funke Akindele-Bello really outdid herself with her latest installment of the Omo Ghetto series, which started around 10 years ago. She co-produced the latest Omo Ghetto movie alongside her husband, JJC Skillz. The movie featured a host of the former Omo Ghetto stars, including Eniola Badmus, Funke Akindele-Bello herself, Bimbo Thomas, and a host of other stars. It also features Nancy Isime and a cameo appearance by musician, Naira Marley. Omo Ghetto was released in cinemas nationwide on December 25th and has gone on to make over 300 Million Naira in the Box Office within less than a month.

2) Citation: A Kunle Afolayan classic, Citation is a Netflix movie and an adaptation of a true-life story. It shows a brilliant young student who took on the establishment on her own after she almost got raped by a respected lecturer. It was released on October 30th in Lagos and November 6th elsewhere. The movie packs a lot of firepower in its cast as it features a few A-listers such as Gabriel Afolayan, Temi Otedola made her big screen debut, the lovely Ini Edo, the ageless Joke Silva, Sadiq Daba, and many others. There was also a cameo from Kunle Afolayan himself.

3) Introducing the Kujus: ITK was released into cinemas all over the country on November 27th, 2020. The movie was produced by ex-BB Naija housemate and actress, Bisola Aiyeola, and directed by Biodun Stephen. It is a comedy movie about siblings who were tricked into traveling down to their hometown by their youngest sister under the guise of the 5th year remembrance of the death of their late mother. The movie features the likes of Timini Egbuson of Elevator Baby fame, Bisola Aiyeola, MC Lively, Kunle Remi, and Femi Jacobs. It also starred twitter sensation, Agba Oli.

4) Quam’s Money: Quam’s money is a comedy centred around Quam, a former security guard who suddenly found himself in riches and lost half a billion Naira due to his greed. The movie was directed by Kayode Kasim and released on December 11, 2020 into cinemas nationwide. It started the likes of Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Williams Uchenna, Jemima Osunde, Broda Shaggi, Toni Tones, Toyin Abraham, and Big brother Naija 2019 winner, Mercy Eke.

5) Rattlesnake- The Ahanna Story: Directed by Ramsey Nouah, the movie is about a young man who had things tough and decided to take the life he wanted by force by assembling a group of extremely skilled young men to carry out heists. This group was known as The Armadas. The movie was released into cinemas nationwide on November 13th, 2020 and featured Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Stan Nze, Chiwetalu Agu, Ayo ‘AY’ Makun, Osas Ighodaro, Norbert Young, and Nengi Rebecca Hampson of BB Naija, among others.
